What ESOS Requires and Who It Applies To
ESOS, the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, requires large UK undertakings to carry out a structured assessment of their total energy consumption every four years. The assessment must cover buildings, transport and industrial processes, be overseen by a qualified Lead Assessor, and result in a notification of compliance submitted to the Environment Agency.
Non-compliance is not a minor administrative issue. The Environment Agency can issue civil penalties of up to £90,000, with ongoing daily fines for continued non-compliance. - Organisations with annual turnover exceeding £44 million and a balance sheet exceeding £38 million
