Find where energy is being wasted, then control it. Practical monitoring, controls and optimisation for hotels and commercial buildings, starting with a free desktop report.

Controls and efficiency

Find the waste, then control it

Energy is typically the second-largest controllable cost in a hotel. Most of it is not lost through system failure. It is lost through poor scheduling, unoccupied rooms being heated or cooled, controls that no longer match how the building is used, and overnight baseload that nobody is tracking.

Typically 15 to 30 percent of annual energy spend can be recovered through practical changes. The right starting point is a clear picture of where the waste is and which fixes are worth pursuing.

Controls and efficiency

Three ways to take control

Energy monitoring

Real-time visibility of every circuit in your building. Find waste automatically and evidence every carbon reduction with verifiable data. Typical energy savings of 10 to 30%. See energy monitoring.

Occupancy-based controls

Guest room energy management that cuts unnecessary heating and cooling in unoccupied rooms, with up to 40% HVAC savings. See hotel energy management.

Heating and hot water optimisation

Frequency-based optimisation that improves heat transfer across boilers, chillers, compressors and hot-water systems, with 10 to 25% hot water savings. See heating optimisation.

Controls and efficiency

Where controls typically fall short

Fixed schedules

HVAC running to schedules set years ago, not to actual occupancy.

Rooms conditioned when empty

Guest rooms heated or cooled whether or not anyone is in them.

Unexplained overnight baseload

Equipment running when the building is at minimum occupancy, with nobody checking why.

No sub-metering

Without it you cannot see which areas drive cost, or prove that a change is working.

Controls and efficiency

What our review covers

HVAC and guest room controls

Scheduling, zoning, occupancy linking and controls quality, often the highest-value area in a hotel.

Lighting and back-of-house

Corridors, plant rooms, car parks and meeting rooms that often run continuously, and where occupancy sensing or scheduling could cut waste without affecting the guest experience.

Metering and visibility

Existing metering coverage, and practical recommendations for seeing where energy goes.

Our free Cost & Energy Waste Report is a limited-time offer. It is a desktop review of your building’s energy use with the likely waste, the likely cost and where to start. No site visit, no charge. See results from real buildings in our case studies.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between monitoring and controls?

Monitoring shows you where and when energy is used. Controls act on it, by scheduling or switching equipment so it only runs when it is needed. Monitoring alone is not enough, because someone has to act on the data.

Does this include lighting?

Lighting is assessed as part of the review, particularly back-of-house areas, corridors and meeting rooms where occupancy sensing or scheduling could cut waste.

Where should we start?

With the free Cost & Energy Waste Report. It shows where your building is likely wasting energy and which of these measures is worth pursuing first.

Will it disrupt our operations?

Our approach is designed around minimal disruption to guests and day-to-day operations. We confirm what that means for your building before any work is agreed.
